Reflection (2024)
This media art project is based on Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s seminal choreography Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich.
The work reinterprets the minimalist repetition and gradual variation of the original, as well as the structural alignment between Steve Reich’s music and movement, through a contemporary visual language. By digitally tracking and visualizing the dancer’s trajectories, movement is transformed into both a melodic pattern and a trace of light.
Though repetitive, the subtle differences and variations generate new rhythms and forms over time. The piece inherits the original’s minimalist tension and immersion, while expanding the structure of movement spatially through technological mediation, offering the audience another dimension of experience.
Ultimately, this work stands at the intersection of dance, music, and technology, re-translating the universal language of repetition and variation into a contemporary media sensibility.
